To make your visit and day of worship a more meaningful experience
please read through the customs of the house.
- We do not have a Mechitzah (barrier), but we do have separate seating for men on
the left of the Aron Kodesh, and seating for ladies on the right.
Family/mixed seating is in the center-back section of the Synagogue.
- Gentlemen - including visitors — are asked to wear a Kippah (skull
cap) while in the sanctuary. If you did not bring one, please take one from the basket before
entering. It is our custom that Talitot (prayer shawls) are only worn by Jews.
- Please shut off your cell phone. If you are a medical professional
or part of an emergency/standby crew, please put your phone on the vibrating
or silent setting.
- It is not not our custom that ladies must wear a head covering, except
for married woman who come to the Bimah for an Aliyah (to read from the
Torah). Otherwise, it is optional.
- The Sefer Torah (Torah Scroll) is not touched with a bare hand, but
rather with the spine of a prayer book or Tzitzit (which is then
kissed).
- Please refrain from entering or leaving the sanctuary during the
Shema, Amidah or whenever the Aron Kodesh (Ark) doors are
open.
- We have a wonderful opportunity for discussion and 'schmoozing'
during Oneg Shabbat (after the service), so you are asked to refrain from casual conversation during
the service, as this may disturb the worship experience for others.
- If you would like more information about our practice and customs, please speak with the Rabbi AFTER the
service.
- We hope you will have a spiritually enriching and meaningful time
with us.
